A little bit about the Croatian language
Croatian is spoken mostly by around 5.5 million South Slavic people in Croatia, the Serbian province of Vojvodina, Herzegovina, Bosnia, and their neighboring countries. The oldest texts in Croatian date back to the 11th century and have been printed, primarily in Croatia, in the Glagolitic alphabet. In the Latin alphabet, the oldest text dates all the way back to 1345. The Glagolitic alphabet in Croatia was gradually substituted by the Latin alphabet. There was no standard written form of Croatian until the mid-19th century, but in various dialects, there was extensive literature. A group of writers and linguists from Serbia and Croatia agreed to create a standard written format based on the normally used Štokavian dialect in 1850.
